Mindful Walking (cont)
Mindful walking is another way for us to practice mindfulness. We begin by coming back to our breathing and coordinate our steps with our breath. We can walk naturally and relaxingly. Enjoy the walk, the nature, and people that are surrounding us. Just like other practices of mindfulness, we focus on 1 thing as a time. Thus, in this case, we just focus on our breathing and or the steps we’re making on the earth. Walking in such a way that we’re not rushing. We can adjust our steps according to our own pace.
This practice can be done throughout the day, when we leave our house to a designate place: our work place, the grocery store, the park, or the train station. Walk naturally so that we don’t look strange walking so slowly in the public places. The key here is to be mindful of our breaths and our steps.
There are also short phrases that will help us to walk mindfully:
“Breathing in, I’m aware of my step.
Breathing out, I enjoy walking.”
“Breathing in, (hello) Mother Earth.
Breathing out, I’m here for you.”
You can also substitute “Mother Earth” for the name of your loved ones, like your mother, your father, your siblings, your spouse, or partner.
To enjoy the walk further, you can also practice:
“Breathing in, present moment.
Breathing out, happy moment.”
“Breathing, I’m alive.
Breathing out, I smile to life.”
Enjoy your walk!
